This lesson plan includes a PowerPoint, a student worksheet and a TE worksheet containing instructions, answer keys and discussion questions for the lesson (shown in red text). The lesson is introduced using a news report explaining the decrease in life expectancy based on numbers of hours of television viewing. The PowerPoint is well written and engaging. Students use the student worksheet as they follow along and participate in the PowerPoint. The focus of the lesson is solving equations when negative numbers are involved. The method used is "adding the opposite" (manipulatives used are two sided tiles – with the colored side representing negative numbers) Answers are provided for all of the student worksheet problems. Overall this is a nice, visual representation for solving equations involving negative numbers that allows students to practice. This can easily be used in a classroom setting.
