These are the lessons for Week One in a trimester-long unit in which 5th Grade will explore the country of the Dominican Republic. These explorations will serve as a framework in which we will also be learning vocabulary related to food and housing. At the end of the trimester we will be having a gathering at the Annex Building at which each homeroom will make a presentation on their country.
Third and Fourth Grade will be exploring other countries at the same time and will also be making presentations. Each grade will be using the framework of their country to explore two of the following themes: houses, clothing, songs and games, and food. We will be learning basic Spanish vocabulary related to these themes on Day 1 of each week and then use that vocabulary to explore different cultural elements of their assigned country on Day 2.
Thus far the lesson schedule is mapped out as follows:
January 4th- what do you know? What do you want to know?
January 11th- geography (find it on a map) and basic info on each homeroom’s country
January 18th- Basic Vocab Intro: food
January 25th- Use Basic House Vocab to Explore assigned country
February 1st- Basic Vocab Intro: housing
February 8th- Use Basic Vocab to Explore the houses of assigned country
