Students need to learn some basics before they can engage in more complex literary analysis. We will learn those basics. These include: vocabulary such as symbolism, metaphor, alliteration, hyperbole, exaggeration, allusions, onomatopoeia. We will also talk about works that get alluded to lot. Students will also learn to determine the author’s intended effect of these devices.
