The New York State Math assessment is administered to students in Grades 6, 7 and 8 every spring. The math teachers analyzed the BOCES Gap reports that showed areas of weaknesses and strengths on particular content-based questions for the departmental students. Pacing calendars for all grade levels were created that allows more teaching time for the more difficult concepts and less time for the easier concepts. The general education curriculum maps were analyzed and compared to the departmental curriculum maps. The teachers aligned the two maps to help ensure that all essential curriculum areas are covered as well as the sequence in which they need to be taught. The New York State Math Standards and Performance Indicators were also aligned with resources that are available to the students. The use of pacing calendars will help standardize curriculum, and control the timing through benchmark testing based on these pacing calendars.
