Jack Buckley, Commissioner for the National Center for Education Statistics at the Department of Education, speaks about the history and goals of the Common Education Data Standards (CEDS). The United States has funded the development of student-level data systems but, because there are no common standards, the systems can't speak to each other horizontally across states or even vertically within states. The goal of CEDS is to create a voluntary common vocabulary of data elements and data models.Published on Nov 7, 2012
