This resource is a collection of lessons centered around the school garden. The first lesson explores where food comes from, including basic botany and tasting of seeds, roots, stems, leaves and fruits. The KWL chart builds on that and leads to a lesson on conservation – reduce, reuse, recycle which includes making planters of recycled materials and growing seeds into plants. Plant journaling comes next where students record what they see through drawing and labeling and writing. Resources for videos of seeds growing into flowers are provided and the lesson culminates in students doing an activity about the life cycle of a plant. While there are suggestions for stretching this activity for older students, it would work best for primary aged children. More book titles could be added to this resource.
