This excellent, comprehensive 5 – 6 week unit is intended for middle school or early high school students, but is certainly robust enough for use with older students. The collection is clearly organized into teacher-facing and student-facing folders. The teacher resources include a detailed scope and sequence of the unit, a variety of engaging lab activities (including answer keys), homework assignments (no keys), notes and assessments (answer keys). The student-facing folder includes the lab sheets, games and notes for student use. Most of these resources are available for download as a Word document, allowing educators to modify them for their own classroom needs. The major concepts covered will be waveforms, measures of a wave, interference, reflection, standing waves, refraction, diffraction, Doppler shift, bow/shock waves, sound transmission, wave speed, loudness and pitch, resonance, beats, electromagnetic spectrum, speed of light, luminous bodies, transparent materials, color, pigments, shadows, polarization, mirrors, images, lenses, and the eyeball. This high quality unit can be used to supplement existing curriculum or can serve as a stand-alone unit and is immediately useful in the classroom.
