This mini-lesson explains the concept of a ratio. A ratio is a way of comparing a pair of numbers or variables. Take the case of two variables a and b. We can compare these two values by showing them as a ratio a : b or as a/b. For example, the ratio of boys and girls in a class with three boys and two girls is 3:2. We'll also learn how it is possible to have different sets of numbers which have the same ratio, and how they can be arrived at by multiplying the ratio with a common multiple.
