Abstract The following CAP will be for Journalism I, its focus is on the following topics: Part One: What is Journalism? • Students will use The New York Times as a model to learn about the sections of a paper and the types of articles, i.e. news, features, and opinion articles, etc.Part Two: News Writing and Reporting • Introduction to the inverted pyramid structure, single-sentence paragraphs, crisp and compelling news leads, and the use of quotations • Basic breakdown and organization of a news article Part Three: Introduction to desktop publishing and lay-out programing • Introduction and use of computer technology in news publishing • Students will examine lay-out specifically headlines and photography, while working with InDesign Part Four: Newspaper production for The Jet Gazette • Specific instruction in writing articles for the high school newspaper • Topics will also include press ethics and press law
