The purpose of this project is to create activities that promote the integration of music, movement and other artistic fields of study into the Literacy Through the Arts program. It has been shown that through art, children who have attention problems can learn through drawing to stay on track for longer lengths of time. In order to achieve realistic drawings the students automatically learned to focus, concentrate, and problem solve. The Literacy Through the Arts program speaks directly to the theory of multiple intelligences. It promotes constructive ways to say what cannot be said and that problems can have more than one solution. Often academically challenged children will excel in artistic tasks. This integration of artistic fields of study will help improve children’s self-esteem and their overall attitude towards school.
