This lesson plan covers much material and is somewhat diffuse in scope. Some of the topics are repeating decimals, infinite sequences, physical models for infinite sequences, compound interest, etc. It’s not clear how many days a tenth grade might spend on this lesson; some of the problems are difficult. There are spelling errors and all the problems are denominated in South African Rands, an exotic currency to Americans. This lesson would benefit from being split into smaller, more focused lessons.
At the conclusion of Session 8, you will be asked to turn in a final project that involves planning, conducting and reflecting on a classroom discussion focused on algebraic thinking. Refer to the Final Project Description. Plan to conduct your discussion so that you will have time to write up your reflection by the end of Session 8.
