The indicators listed in this resource are from the KEYS 2.0 survey toolkit that was released by the National Education Association in 2000 as part of the KEYS (Keys to Excellence for Your Schools) national school improvement initiative. The survey, which is designed to be self-administered by school staff and parents, can be used to assess school processes and as a means to achieving school excellence through a continuous school improvement (CSI) model. The 42 measurable indicators of school quality are grouped into the following six categories (or keys):
