Instinct goes a long way; what you already know about architectureFor the first lesson plan in this unit, the teacher will lead brainstorming activities to get the students thinking critically about their built environment. The goal is to introduce architectural concepts and begin to build student confidence in how much they already know about good and bad buildings. Schools involved in the 2009 Open Architecture Challenge will introduce the challenge guidelines and establish the student in a client relationship with the architect they will be working with. This lesson was developed in tandem with Architecture for Humanity's 2009 Open Architecture Challenge: Classrooms, which is inviting architects, designers, students, teachers and parents to imagine the classroom of the future. The Open Architecture Challenge is an open, international design competition.
