This resource is a lesson plan that guides students through the process of learning about civic responsibility. Students first learn about the roles and responsibilities of civic leaders and then, in groups of three, interview a civic leader. The culminating project is the creation of a children's book that covers what they have learned. This is interactive and engaging strategy for learning the material. It will, however, require a lot of advance planning by the teacher to make the necessary connections with local civic leaders. It is also recommended that the teacher create a worksheet with key questions to be used during the interview and that students are provided with a sample of the children's book to use as a model.
