The class session will be a cultural lesson about Mardi Gras in New Orléans; the history of the celebration, the traditions and important aspects of the event. This lesson builds on what the students already learned in the cultural unit on Carnaval de Québec. The curriculum of my class has two components, one being vocabulary and grammar, and the other is culture. Throughout the trimester my students learn about many different cultural topics such as school life in a foreign country, food, family life, and in this case, holidays and celebrations. I teach my classes not only about France, but much of the Francophone world. For this reason, they are exposed to multiple facets of the Francophone culture. Many of my students have not had the opportunity to travel to different places. By teaching them about how traditions and festivals are celebrated around the Francophone world, I hope to broaden their awareness of diverse cultures and people.
