This is the second lesson in the Nutrition, Health, and Well-being unit. The material is intended for higher level biology students. However, the difficulty of the assignment and appropriateness of the material is determined by the instructor. Students will learn the importance of microbiology, the basics of bacteria, and simple steps that can prevent pathogens from harming the body.
This resource was reviewed using the Curriki Review rubric and received an overall Curriki Review System rating of 1, as of 2012-08-01.
This lesson plan gives an important lesson in what bacteria is and how it affects others. The incorporation of videos and other visual software can make students understand more, and what can be done to prevent the spread of the bacteria. I also think the lesson plan gives a in depth idea of how bacteria affects the body and how a person should prioritize personal Hygiene. The instructions are clear and even gives a subtle hint about making sure students do not open their BHI plates.
I would recommend adding some content that focuses on beneficial bacteria as well as pathogenic bacteria on the body. Often students are taught to demonize microorganisms, even though we couldn't exist without them!
