These are the lessons for a trimester-long unit in which 3rd Grade will explore the countries of either Nicaragua (Dragonflies), the Dominican Republic (Caiman), or Puerto Rico (Coati). These explorations will serve as a framework in which we will also be learning vocabulary related to houses and games/commands. Each homeroom will be assigned a different Latin American Country which they will explore during the 2nd trimester. At the end of the trimester we will be having a gathering at the Annex Building at which each homeroom will make a presentation on their country.Fourth and Fifth Grade will be exploring other countries at the same time and will also be making presentations. Each grade will be using the framework of their country to explore two of the following themes: houses, clothing, songs and games, and food. We will be learning basic Spanish vocabulary related to these themes on Day 1 of each week and then use that vocabulary to explore different cultural elements of their assigned country on Day 2. Thus far the lesson schedule is mapped out as follows: January 4th- what do you know? What do you want to know? January 11th- geography (find it on a map) and basic info on each homeroom’s country January 18th- Basic Vocab Intro: house vocabulary January 25th- Use Basic House Vocab to Explore assigned country February 1st- Basic Vocab Intro: games February 8th- Use Basic Vocab to Explore the games of assigned country
