No Time to Lose: An Optimization Problem This lesson uses the Two Terrains applet and graphing technology (if available) to solve an optimization problem minimizing travel time, an important illustration of how functions are used in the real world. While role playing as camp employees, students will determine the fastest route between an airport and a summer camp. Students will use tables and graphs to represent collected data and progress to develop functions representing the travel time for different cars traveling a variety of possible routes. Students use their constructed functions to identify the optimal path and vehicle that will minimize the duration of the trip.
