The Pyramid of Khafre is the last Egyptian pyramid with some of its limestone covering intact. The forams that created the limestone used in the Pyramids lived millions of years ago, when an ancient ocean covered what is now the Sahara Desert. As the ocean dried up, layers of limestone sat near the surface of the desert. Ancient Egyptians used these former seabeds as quarries.
