Digital curriculum materials developed by Education Services Australia are based on current research findings in science education and pedagogy. They foster scientific inquiry, data interpretation, analysis and synthesis skills that are transferable to daily life and to offline learning opportunities.The learning objects promote scientific literacy and are organised around scientific concepts with real-life application for students. They contain open-ended investigative tasks, tools, activities, and processes that enable students to engage in ‘real’ science experiences and to construct and test their own scientific understandings. Many of the learning objects also provide meaningful models, simulations and demonstrations of scientific concepts and practices. These provide teachers and students with experiences that are not universally available because, for example, they require expensive equipment or occur over extended periods of time.
