In this session, you will explore students' algebraic thinking by examining their written and oral work related to patterns activities. The previous session focused on your own algebraic thinking. In this session, our focus turns to students' algebraic thinking in order to better understand the nature of their misconceptions and difficulties. To do that, you will analyze several pieces of student work from a patterns problem you've done and reflect on what you think the students understand mathematically. Then you will watch a pair of videos in which the students explain their thinking in their own words. In the Learning Log, you will have an opportunity to express your thoughts about the students’ understanding.
