This mini-lesson introduces and walks you through the properties of similar polygons. You'll learn it with the help of some examples and practice questions with solution, watching video as well as explanation by the instructor in own handwriting.
These are polygons for which corresponding angles are equal and all corresponding sides are proportional. The symbol ~ is used for similarity. Here you will find the practice questions and quizzes with solution to help you enhancing the skills. In a simpler way all you need to do is: recognize when polygons are similar and use the properties of similar polygons to solve the problems. For example, the sides i.e. width and length of two rectangles are 9, 15 and 3, 5. If you take the ratio between width and length of the rectangles it is 3 : 5.
The ratio of the lengths of two corresponding sides of similar polygons is termed as ‘scale factor’. Now take a closer look at the explanation with some examples, how to find missing side of any figure, given measures of the sides of its congruent figure.
