This resource is a lesson plan for teaching students about political cartoons. Students analyze early political cartoons and compare and contrast them with ones from later time periods. The lesson is well-organized and includes standards, procedures, objectives, and the necessary materials to implement the lesson. The lesson uses a variety of instructional strategies from whole class discussions to air-shares to and an individual final assessments. It should be noted that students need prior knowledge about the content in the cartoons. While intended for seventh graders on early American political cartoons, the structure of the lesson could also be adapted for other grade levels and historical topics.
