This PowerPoint explores and explains the themes in two works: Barn Burning by William Faulkner and The Man That Corrupted Hadleyburg by Mark Twain. The themes examined in Barn Burning are: alienation and loneliness, anger and hatred, loyalty and betrayal, morals and morality and order and disorder. The themes examined in Hadleyburg are: hypocrisy; morality, ethics and the innateness of human sinfulness; the Eden myth and the “Fortunate Fall;” and individual versus society. The analyses are clear, provocative and helpful as a pre or post reading strategy. Discussion would follow in a natural progression from this PPT.
