Earth and beyond

Lunar cycles: Earth glow

View planet Earth from the near side of the Moon. Use a model to investigate Earth’s appearance from different positions in the Moon’s orbit. Notice that Earth reflects sunlight in phases similar to the Moon phases seen from Earth. Answer a series of questions by experimenting with the model. For example, position the Moon so that you see a 'full Earth' (maximum reflection of sunlight). This learning object is one in a series of four objects.

Animation: Earth's Atmosphere

Lesson 19: Atmospheric Structure contains instruction on the troposphere, the tropopause, the jet stream, the stratosphere, ozone, the production of ozone, the destruction of ozone, chlorofluorocarbons, the stratopause, the mesosphere, the thermosphere, the ionosphere, the exosphere, and the Earth's atmosphere. Global Temperature Simulator

This a Flash graphing simulation. You control the amount of solar radiation and the amount of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. You then see the estimated heat loss, net forcing and resulting temperature change. This is a very simplistic model but is useful to teach about the inputs, outputs and temperature equilibria.
