Panwapa Community Citizenry Project Collection

Global citizenship begins with a connection to local community. For kids, investigating and connecting with their communities is the first step in engaging with the larger world.

The Community Citizenry Project activities are designed to familiarize children with their own communities: instilling a sense of pride in what their communities have accomplished, and a sense of potential about what their communities can become. The curriculum integrates Panwapa online activities into a series of projects that result in the creation of a Community Citizenry Project. Ideally, at the end of the project, the completed project will be displayed in an appropriate place in the community.

The last page of this curriculum contains a reproducible Panwapa Diplomat Certificate that can be given to kids once they have completed these lessons. The certificate is meant to both celebrate what the group has accomplished, and to provide a visual reminder of the group’s continuing commitment to global citizenship and involvement in Panwapa World.

Panwapa Profile (Community Citizenry Project Worksheet)

Description:Panwapa is a program designed to teach young children about other cultures and how to be a part of the global community.

Global citizenry begins with a connection to your own community. Understanding, investigating and connecting with your community is the first step in engaging with the larger world.

The concept of the “wider world” is more concrete and realistic for kids who have a deeper understanding of the way they fit into their immediate world. This worksheet serves as a "profile."

Using this profile, Panwapa kids describe themselves and what makes them unique, so they can meet other Panwapa kids and appreciate their similarities, and their differences.

Community Citizenry Project Unit 1: Defining Community

Description:This unit is the first of six in the Panwapa Community Citizenry Project Curriculum. Students are introduced to the idea of community and discuss their community before making avatars and cards to represent themselves. By reflecting on what is important in their own community, students can learn to appreciate someone else's.
