What's Happening on Curriki

Recent Changes

Here are a few of our most recent changes to the site:

1. Browse Resources by Subject

We've launched improved "Browse" capability. The new Browse offers a top-level menu for subjects, similar to the old one; now, however, users select a subject and then, instead of going directly to search results for all resources aligned to that subject, users first go to a sub-menu page offering topic- and educational-level links, as well as some features like "Top-Rated" and exemplary resources in the subject.

Click "Browse Subjects" in the header to access the subject menu anytime or hit it directly at this URL:

2. Focus On Core Subjects

We've also launched four new "Focus on..." pages in Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies. Each page has subject-focused "Highlights" and promotes recently top-rated content and "Curriki Samplers" as well as pointing to the topic- and educational-level links for browsing.

Check out the new section of the home page (below Highlights) to access these pages, or hit them directly at these URLs:

3. Improvements for Adding & Editing a Resource

Members should now experience faster load times for dialogs when contributing a resource or when adding existing resources to group collections.

There's a new topic for "Grammar" available under the subject "Language Arts" in information settings.

We've updated the method for copying file resources; members can now specify a location when copying a resource. In addition, when copying a resource into a group collection, you can give all group members complete rights to access and edit the new copy.  See the Copy section of the Help collection for details about using the new copy process.

We've updated the location of the Key Words field for file, folder, and collection contributions and improved back-end tagging to create greater visibility and improved search results.

4. Updated Networking Tools

We've integrated AddThis, a tool to help users share content. Look for the "Share" link to take advantage of this feature for sending Curriki resources, blogs, and news to friends through Twitter, Facebook, and more.

And finally, the Currki Blog has been updated so that you can subscribe to it with an RSS feed.  Check out the new blog here: http://blog.curriki.org/

Upcoming Changes

We are currently working on several new site features and updates. More details will be available as the launch of these changes moves closer.

  1. Adding the "Last Updated" date to the information rollover pop-up for resources
  2. Limiting the number of top-level subjects to which a resource can be aligned in order to improve search results
  3. Limiting the length of resource titles to ensure they display properly in all locations
  4. Streamlining the site footer for better access to important information
  5. New features enabling members to align resources to standards and browse resources based on alignments
  6. New animated/video tutorials for training and how-to that will help you become a Curriki power member
We've also begun the process of reviewing our technology to make sure it meets the needs of our growing Curriki community. In the coming months, we'll be looking at possible platform improvements to help Curriki ensure that the tools and support you need most will continue to be available and improve as our site evolves.
