Enquiry based learning - iDiscover - Crosshall Junior School
This group has been set up by a group of teachers at Crosshall Junior School in the UK. We are exploring enquiry-based learning with children aged 7-11 and are keen to share what we have learned and to learn from the experience of others.
To foster enquiry, we have been running iDiscover sessions with all year groups in the school, experimenting with different periods and concentrations of time (e.g. from one intensive week to one afternoon every week for 1/2 term) and are now looking at introducing these approaches into the core curriculum. Children are given an outine of a topic and then can choose what elements to focus on, their team, a tutor, their approach and how they will demonstrate their learning. As a result of their ability to choose, they are very engaged in learning and often continue to work through breaks and outside school. Furthermore, they talk to their parents about what they have been working on at school!Welcome
If you are exploring enquiry based learning too, we would love to hear from you. Please click on the curriculum tab for a fuller account of what we have been doing. We have also put together a How To guide based on our experiences so far.
