I teach mathematics at the Louisiana School for Math, Science, and the Arts, a public boarding school, where I teach Geometry, Algebra II, Trig, Precal, Calc I, Calc II, and next spring a new course, a semester-long prob/stat course with Calc II and C++ as corequisites.

Not being satisfied with the available textbooks, I've written my own materials for my Algebra II class, rewriting it from scratch every year for the past five. My training is not in curriculum but in mathematics, so while I can decide what my students need to learn, I know nothing about state standards, which don't apply to my school. What I have gotten very good at, and would like to contribute, is, given a set of pedagogical goals for a set of exercises, finding the set of exercises that best fits the goals.

For instance, in the materials I'm planning for this fall, not only will a given day's homework cover, say, solving quadratics by completing the square and showing that three lines concur, but I'll also track the arithmetic involved in each exercise and choose the set so that the student practices each nontrivial element of the 10x10 multiplication table at least once.

I have posted in my Curriki collection a document called "Selecting Exercises for Problem Sets: A Model for Cooperation between a Curriculum Designer, a Mathematician, and a Programmer."

I would be interested in hearing how I can contribute to the Khan Academy project.
