IMPORTANT RESOURCES

Course materials

We have included all the written course materials, comprising the Participant's Workbook, Leaders' Guide and a press-quality version of the Resource Section. These are designed to be used with the accompanying DVD, which is available, along with hard copies of the materials, from the Better Parents website (see below) but we've made them available here for you to download. We welcome any encouraging or constructive feedback you may have.

3-minute video

This video features the authors of The Fusion Programme, Katy Phillips and Karen Todd, talking about the ethos behind Fusion, some of the consultation findings and the impact it is having in the UK. There is also some testimonial from two previous participants on the course.

On the same page, there is also a Word document transcript of an interview with the authors, which goes into more depth how Fusion came about and what has resulted in the last 3-4 years.

Website

Hard copies of all course materials, copies of the accompanying DVD, course packs, Fusion Drop-Ins starter packs and a host of other information will be available at the Better Parents website.

There will also be a new social networking area for the Fusion community (expected end of May 2008), allowing participants past, present and future to get or provide ongoing support in their daily family challenges, keep in touch and share success via groups, events lists, private messaging, etc. Also included on the website will be news, competitions, articles, testimonials, free downloads, new courses and specialist groups.

We have included more information here on Curriki. Take a look and let us know what you think.

Information about Better Parents
Better Parents was set up to provide training, distribution and development of The Fusion Programme, in support of the Innovation Unit and schools, organisations and individuals who want to run/attend the course.

A major part of the success of Fusion has been the sense of community generated by attendees and leaders. To continue this, Fusion Drop-Ins (informal get-togethers) have been formed as a means of providing support, encouragement and the celebration of success to Fusion's participants long after the course has finished.

To aid this activity and fully support participants and leaders (past, present and future), www.betterparents.co.uk will be revamped in the next month or so to provide a social networking site to provide another level of support, similar to Fusion Drop-Ins. This will allow 'Fusioneers' to stay in contact, contribute on forums, join groups, add events, message each other, encourage each other and share challenges and breakthroughs as and when they happen.

The ethos of the site will be to provide somewhere to allow people to avoid isolation and deal with the daily challenges being a parent, carer, children's professional, etc. can bring with other similar people to offer support. Please bear with us while we get it up and running, as these projects sometimes develop teething troubles.

We will also be providing other features such as articles, news, competitions, future courses and so on. In addition, we hope to be able to provide specialised forums for additional and special educational needs, moderated by carefully chosen experts and operated under the same inclusive and encouraging ethos of the Better Parents site.

Please support this project so we can support those who need it most … all of us.

The Fusion Programme - Course Materials
These are the course materials that accompany The Fusion Programme, developed by Katy Phillips & Karen Todd in conjunction with the UK Innovations Unit.

They comprise:

The Fusion Workbook - one for each participant in the course. The Fusion Leaders' Guide - one per leader, two leaders per course. The Fusion Resource Section - also contained in the Leaders' Guide, provided in press quality format for printing from a computer, instead of photocopying.

All these materials, as well as the accompanying DVD, are available in hard copy from www.betterparents.co.uk.

Please be patient when downloading. Due to the size of the documents, they could take a couple of minutes, depending on your connection speed. They're worth the wait though.

How to help parents develop their parenting skills
This has been developed from the transcripts of interviews with Karen Todd and Katy Phillips, authors of Fusion a 6 week parenting course. It is intended to share their experience of encouraging parents to come on the Fusion course, setting up and running the courses. Please feel free to add your insights and experiences to develop this further.
