Prof Wu Jian Ping

Prof Wu Jian Ping was born in 1953 in Shandong Province in China. He graduated from the Dept of Computer Science of Tsinghua University in 1977, and thereafter earned his MS and PhD from the same department of Tsinghua University.

Prof Wu Jian Ping obtained Canada Study Award by Canadian International Council in 1994; Croucher Foundation Award by Croucher Foundation of Hong Kong in 1995; and The Distinguished Specialist Award, by the State Council of China in 1996.

Prof Wu Jian Ping was named as the director of Department of Computer Science, Tsinghua University in 1998.

Prof Wu Jian Ping is one of the leading experts of Internet community in China. For more than 10 years, he has been instrumental in and contributing a lot to the Internet development in China. Moreover, he has since 1994 been in charge of China Education and Research Network (CERNET), which is the first nation-wide academic network in China and so far has fully developed as the second largest Internet service provider with over 1000 universities and hundreds of thousands of K-12 schools connected onto it across China with around 100 million users in the country. With his rich knowledge and experience, he is invited/appointed for many times by Chinese government to be the special advisor and consultant for some very big and important Internet administration and policy projects nationwide. Prof Wu is also a major member of CNNIC (China National Network Info Committee) and Vice Chairman of Boardof Directors, Internet Society of China.

Recently, Prof Wu is the key member of the "NGCI" ( Next Generation China Internet ) which is based on the IPV6 technology. This is a national project to upgrade the internet infrastructure to higher bandwidth with more advanced IP addressing mechanism. And Prof Wu is key researcher to help Ministry of Education (MOE) to build the CERNET2 - the next generation Education & Research Network based on INTERNET2/IPV6 Technology. Prof Wu has actively engaged with INTERNET2 in US.
