As a little girl, Barbara Kurshan dreamed of one day becoming an astronaut or a doctor. Time has helped her define her goal and at the end it was neither one of these options. Her destiny lay with education and for 11 years she worked as a teacher until one day the idea of joining technology with education took hold of her. “Growing up, I knew that I wanted to work with children and computers in one way or another,” recalls Kurshan. “But that was a radical idea at the time, particularly for women.”

SMART-created lesson activities now accessible through Curriki website
SMART Technologies announces the addition of 100 SMART-created lesson activities to Curriki. These interactive lesson activities for Notebook collaborative learning software are designed for K­12 teachers. The activities include embedded Adobe, Flash, multimedia files as well as colorful and descriptive graphics. Each one is designed to encourage interactivity in the classroom. Curriki's use of open-source content allows users to comment, edit and group together curricular materials to create a lesson. Teachers can adapt or revise lesson plans to suit their students' needs.

KnowledgeWorks Foundation Provides Executive-On-Loan to Curriki's Open Source Learning Website
KnowledgeWorks Foundation has announced a new collaboration agreement with Curriki. The collaboration aims to further the website's mission of creating a community for teachers to develop open source learning resources that are free to anyone. To support that goal, KnowledgeWorks has agreed to share expertise it gained from founding Educator's Knowledge Network, an online professional learning community for American teachers involved in its high school reform efforts.
