Curriki Partners with GlobalScholar.com to Dramatically Extend Reach of Open Source Curriculum

Curriki’s open source curriculum and collaboration tools combined with GlobalScholar’s state-of-the-art instructional platform offer a boon for educators in the U.S. and around the world.

WASHINGTON, D.C. and BELLEVUE, Wash. (May 13, 2008) – Curriki, the Global Education and Learning Community, today announced a partnership with GlobalScholar.com, a leading provider of curriculum, instruction and assessment management solutions to schools and school districts. This partnership will make it easier for educators to contribute curriculum to the Curriki learning community and make it easier for teachers, parents and students to find the most appropriate and relevant free and open source curricula, when and where it is needed.

Curriki founder and board member Scott McNealy said: “The alliance with GlobalScholar is vital in helping Curriki meet its mission of providing students, teachers and parents with free and open source content and curricula in two important ways. First, educators using the GlobalScholar platform can more easily participate in the Curriki community by sharing their curriculum with just a mouse click. The second advantage is that by making Curriki’s assets accessible through the GlobalScholar platform, it is readily available to educators, parents and students when they need it, where they need it.”

In addition to facilitating the sharing of open source content and curricula, the companies are collaborating to develop open source assessment functionality as well as integrating community and collaboration tools across the two platforms. Also, as both Curriki and GlobalScholar are international organizations, the partnership will extend beyond the United States.

“We are excited to be able to work with the Curriki team and to play a part in the creation of this valuable global resource,” said GlobalScholarCEO Kal Raman. “Also, providing seamless access to Curriki’s vast library of open source content to the millions of teachers, tutors, parents, and students using the GlobalScholar platform, is completely consistent with our objective of efficiently aligning all the resources of educations.”

Details have not yet been released about the specific launch date for the integrated product features, but it is expected to be available for the beginning of the 2008-2009 school year.
