A few weeks before teaching Antigone, I hand out this survey to the staff at my school. From the information I receive back, I create a matching quiz that asks students to match the staff member to a job he/she previously held. I try to put careers on the quiz that are typically associated with one gender. This gives the students a chance to look at gender bias, a key issue in Antigone. We discuss why they assumed things about different staff and careers.
This guide will help students keep track of the events of the play as they unfold.

This small group activity will help students review the major issues of the play, and give them exercise in using quotes to support their ideas.
Another small group activity-- this one requires students to create a newspaper for the city of Thebes. I have the kids use large sheets of paper so that the newspapers can be hung in the hallways for all to read.
After reading Antigone, we watch the movie Whale Rider which has many parallels with the play. This study guide will help students keep track of the characters and events in the movie.
