This resource is one unit in a series of lessons on Nigeria submitted by the World Affairs Council. The unit has background information, clear objectives, detailed procedures, and all of the necessary handouts to implement the unit. All of the materials are excellent. The content is current, accurate, and accessible to students at the recommended grade levels. There are a variety of different activities to engage students in learning about Nigeria and the environmental and economic challenges it is facing. Some of the highlights include an article, discussion, and slide show on the environmental impact of oil exploration in the Niger Delta, a simulation that examines the various perspectives on oil in the Delta, and an activity on the role of corporations in the exploration of oil. The entire unit is immediately useful in a classroom and many of the handouts and activities could also be stand alone lessons integrated into various classes such as Global Issues, World History, or Economics. There are also a lot of relevant links included in the lesson that could be used to further develop the lessons.
