E-book, Lesson Plan

This lesson is part of a larger unit on the Great Depression. In this unit, students will be focusing on determining importance; summarizing; making predictions; recognizing plot structure; and identifying flashbacks, foreshadowing and setting. Wherever possible, mini-lesson texts relate to American life in the 1930s, and all students will be reading literature circle novels set during this time period in American history. In today's lesson, students will identify conflict as they read and differentiate between internal and external conflict. This resource is part of the Great Depression Unit collection.

Reviewer Comments:

This lesson is part of a larger resource on the Depression. Its objectives are: to teach students how to differentiate between internal and external conflict and; to differentiate between conflicts - human versus human, human versus nature, and human versus self conflicts. Students are asked to journal and make connections. The lesson includes direct instruction, which offers definitions and examples, some guided practice, which gives the students several opportunities to practice and really understand the different kinds of conflicts. The lesson offers guidance for independent practice and differentiated instruction for various levels of students.
