This is a unit I developed to teach 1984 as part of a Dystopian Literature unit for 12th grade. The unit includes: an introductory anticipation guide, study guides for each section of the novel, small group discussion techniques, author background information, some smaller writing assignments, and a final group project, including a grading rubric.

This outstanding resource is a complete guide in best practice to teach the novel 1984. This parent resource offers 12 children in pre-reading, during reading and post reading support, beginning with a well crafted anticipation guide and a PPT providing background information on George Orwell. It includes several study guides with probing critical questions to guide the student through the text and help him or her to keep track of major events, characters, themes and information from the novel. For during reading strategies, guidelines are provided for literature circles (as well as 1984 Society Group Rules and Roles. Writing assignments are included, some of which ask the student to do research on privacy or public opinion. Finally, a final project with a rubric is offered, as well as a link to a final parody of 1984 offered on Youtube.
