Reviewer Comments:

This resource invites students to compare and contrast two well known pieces of art – Van Gogh’s and Self-Portrait and Matisse’s Green Stripe. Links to images of the artists’ work are clear and easy to use. The student is asked to research and write about each painting as well as the time period in which each work was created. The lesson ends with a roundtable discussion where information is synthesized and recapped, clarified and evaluated. It also offers an opportunity for the teacher to correct any misinterpretations about the Fauve and Post-Impressionist era.
