This lesson introduces basic concepts related to copyright and fair use to students in grades 4 to 8, although the material can be a suitable introduction for older students and adults as well! Students will learn that creative work belongs to its creator or owner, and that copyright is a law, and then explore the permissions and limitations of the Fair Use Doctrine. This lesson is brief (about 40 minutes) and uses a variety of engaging online materials to prompt learning and discussion. The clarity of this resource will allow any educator with Internet access to easily incorporate this lesson into their existing curriculum.
