Reviewer Comments:

This engaging challenge comes at the end of a unit exploring density, volume, displacement, and Archimedes’ principle. Appropriate for middle school or early high school, this lesson plan can be adapted for a variety of grade levels. The lesson objectives are detailed and clear. Each student group is limited to 100g of clay and three straws and is charged with the task of creating a boat. Furthermore, the boat that supports the most weight wins a class contest. Among the requirements, students must complete a planning form describing their design, scale drawings, and testing processes. Detailed assessment ideas and a rubric are included in this resource. This lesson plan is excellent and ready to use in the classroom.
