### A zoologist compares the species of snakes...compares two scatter plots...makes inferences.

by Carolyn Schaupp

Summarize, represent, and interpret data on two categorical and quantitative variables....species of snakes. Represent data on two quantitative variables on a scatter plot, and describe how the variables (species) are related. Informally assess the fit of a function by plotting and analyzing residuals (essentially the distance of the data points from the fitted regression line) Fit a linear function for a scatter plot that suggests a linear association and look for trends including correlations and lines of best fit.

### Describe the main features of a population scatter plot and make sense of trends in order to  graph a line to represent average density and calculate density relationships.

by Carolyn Schaupp

Summarize, represent, and interpret data on two categorical and quantitative variables...(some states population per square mile versus other states). Represent data on two quantitative variables on a scatter plot, and describe how  the variables are related in terms of density. Fit a function to the data; use functions fitted to data to solve problems in the  context of the data...calculate the population for a state with an average area. Informally assess the fit of a function by plotting and analyzing residuals.  Fit a linear function for a scatter plot that suggests a linear association..recognize and describe trends.

### Calculate and interpret mean, medium and mode in a given table of realistic data of a company's annual salaries.

by Carolyn Schaupp

Represent data with plots on the real number line (dot plots, histograms, and  box plots).  Use statistics appropriate to the shape of the data distribution to compare center (median, mean) and spread (interquartile range, standard deviation) of two or more different data sets.  Compare the difference between lists of data to tables and graphs.
