One Million Degrees coaches transform lives. As part of our community of support, coaches work with our community college scholars throughout the year, helping them set goals and motivating them in both their professional and personal journeys. One Million Degrees scholars are low-income, highly motivated individuals pursuing their associate’s degrees so that they can reach their full personal and professional potential and can be positive forces in their families and communities. The Commitment • Coach, motivate, and inspire your scholar as they pursue their goals and create a career portfolio to launch their professional careers. • Participate in coaching orientation in early Fall. • Engage in a minimum of nine, one-hour meetings each year. (Sessions take place in downtown Chicago one Saturday a month, September through May.) • Be available by phone or by email outside of scheduled coaching sessions. We ask that coaches and scholars check in at least once per month. • Collaborate with One Million Degrees staff to support scholar achievement. • Believe in the transformative power of their success. Your scholar is likely the first in his or her family to go to college. Their success will transform not just their own lives, but their families and communities as well. Training and Supports for Coaches • Fall Coach Training (September 6th) • Coaching Toolkit with best practices in undergraduate career development as samples and templates of key scholar career portfolio components such as the resume and cover letter. • Opportunities to learn and share best practices with other coaches. • Program staff who are available to coaches for troubleshooting or guidance.
