This lesson plan from Texas Instruments uses the example of a crime scene investigation. "The students are to make a judgment about the height of a thief who left a shoeprint at the scene of a crime. Each student will collect and organize data, create a scatter plot, then determine a linear regression to describe the data, then make a judgment about the height of the unknown person." This particular lesson includes directions for using a TI-Nspire graphing calculator to create the scatter plot. A set of files for the lesson may be downloaded in a ZIP file, or in individual files. The activity should take about 75 minutes of class time to complete.
