This resource presents a project for students who have completed a reading and study of Catcher in the Rye. Students are asked to choose any 5 songs to describe the 5 most significant scenes to them in the book. The project asks them to show how and why the song is significant to them and the book. Students are asked to think, prepare and commit to interpretation and analysis. They are required to create a CD with the 5 songs they have chosen, lyrics for the songs, a summary of each scene with a highlighted quote and an explanation of why each scene was chosen.

The Final Project for The Catcher in the Rye:
Goal: We have worked very hard in our reading of J.D. Salinger's classic novel, and now it is your turn to be creative in describing Holden’s trip from prep school to New York, and inevitably to an institution, all through music.
You will choose just 5 songs to describe just 5 scenes of your choice. These scenes must be most significant to you, and through your song choice you will show how and why. This project demands thought, preparation, and commitment to interpretation and analysis.
Requirements to hand in on project due date:
1. A burned CD or tape with the 5 songs you chose. (0-25 points)
**** Please let me know right away if you need accommodations for this.****
2. Hand-written or printed/typed lyrics for each of the 5 songs. (0-25 points)
3. A written summary for each of the 5 scenes you chose to highlight through the songs. Within the summary, you must use one specific quote. Each summary must be at least one paragraph (a paragraph, I consider, is at least 5 sentences). (0-25 points)
4. Reasoning Requirements (found below), on a separate sheet. (0-25 points)
By the end of day one you will hand in the following:
·Your 5 chosen scenes.
·A summary and significant quote for each scene.
·An informal explanation of why you chose each scene. This can be at the end of your scene worksheet.
I can’t wait to see what you all come up with!!!! This will be great!!!
