Reviewer Comments:

This excellent lesson for primary students begins with a concrete demonstration of comparing and contrasting.  Two students are asked to stand before the class as the class looks for similarities and differences between the students.  Once this practice is demonstrated and understood, the class turns to books to reinforce this discriminating skill.  Specific titles are suggested as well as how to use fiction and non-fiction texts.  Characters may be compared and contrasted in fictionalized texts; topics, themes or elements may be compared and contrasted in informational texts.  A Venn diagram is provided as a graphic organizer.
