Lesson Plan


Students will define and identify external and internal conflicts as they tell/write their own stories about conflicts they have had with nature. This lesson will also prepare students to later apply external and internal conflict to literature. This was developed with English Language Learners in mind.

This resource provides a detailed lesson plan for guiding the ELL students toward developing speaking and listening skills, as they identify and tell their own external and internal conflicts with nature. Ideas for differentiating instruction are provided. Ideas for an anticipatory guide, activating prior knowledge, direct instruction, dramatic role play, listening, speaking, writing, reading and informal assessment are included as well. The lesson is based on best practices and serves as a preparatory base for students to apply external and internal conflict to literature and a class novel.
