Welcome students. In this project we are going to have some fun working with figurative language. You will read an excerpt from Dickens' novel Hard Times, paying particular attention to the literary devices that you recognize from what we've learned in class. You will learn a little about where and when Dickens grew up which is important when reading his work. Then, you will show me what you have learned by using figurative language to create your own description of a place. First, read Dickens' description of Coketown from his novel Hard Times .
