Full Course, Other

English 9B is the second semester of a year-long Language Arts course. In this course, we will study novels, plays, poetry, and articles as a means of improving critical thinking, reading comprehension, vocabulary, and written expression. Through written, audio, and video recordings, students share their reactions to the characters, themes, and issues of the works studied. Grammar, vocabulary, symbolism, plot points, and character development are among the language and literary techniques which students will study in this course. Throughout the course, students will make connections between the themes and characters of literature, and the events and interactions of their own lives.

Reviewer Comments:

This comprehensive resource provides a solid frame for English 10A semester one. While some of our rubrics (i.e. Degree of Alignment to Standards) may not be explicitly addressed in the resource, the resource does provide rich useful curriculum for any English 10 standards based classroom. Instruction in censorship, literary elements, analysis and critical thinking are integral to the course. Supporting and developing reading comprehension and writing strategies are integral to this resource. Texts such as Sarah Plain and Tall, Frankenstein and Dystopian novels are explored in depth. Writing to solidify and clarify one’s thinking is a large part of this resource and materials and support for teaching writing is included. This resource’s richness lends itself to be mined and personalized.
