This resource is a 3-4 week ELA writing project for 9th graders. CCSS are cited and students are asked to write an informative/explanatory text looking at complex ideas and information. Essential questions are asked, students are provided with a Gallery Walk and Building Background Knowledge is addressed. Students engage in the writing process, developing and strengthening ideas by planning, writing, revising, editing, rewriting, etc. Students are also encouraged to focus on how to write for a specific purpose and address a specific audience. Students must cite strong textual evidence from various texts to support analysis. The summative assessment is a well-organized, thoroughly developed essay and a visual related to the topic. The resource is also differentiated for ELD students.
