Description:

In this animation, students view the movement of P and S waves created by an earthquake. The location of the earthquake is labeled on a cutaway image of Earth, and when students play the animation, they view each type of wave move. Accompanying text explains how scientists determined the structure of Earth's interior layers and how seismic waves travel through the interior. The text also prompts students to observe specific phenomena in the animation. Movie control buttons are provided so that students can play, pause, and step through the animation.
